Permission to Pause – Why Rest Is Sacred (Even When You're Building Something Big)

When You’re Building, Rest Feels Like a Luxury

If you’re anything like me, you’ve spent much of your life in “go mode.” You wake up early, you stay up late, and you try to outwork whatever’s weighing on your shoulders. Whether it's rebuilding a business, making ends meet, or simply trying to be the man your family and community can count on — rest often feels like something you’ll get to later.

But here’s the truth God’s been showing me: rest is sacred.
Not lazy. Not wasted. Sacred.

I’ve been working to rebuild my real estate business while driving trucks across the country. I'm chasing the dream God planted in me years ago — to serve people, to guide families through one of the biggest decisions they’ll ever make, and to do it all with integrity and faith.

And yet... in the midst of all that building, I’ve had to learn how to stop.

Because the real foundation I’m building on isn’t grit alone — it’s grace.

 The Stillness Between the Miles

Driving for long hours gives you time to think. And somewhere between the highways and the back roads, I’ve started to realize that the times I feel the most grounded aren’t always when I’m crossing things off the list — they’re when I’m walking through the woods in North Georgia, sitting on a porch with my coffee, or just turning the noise down long enough to listen.

Listen to what God’s been trying to tell me.

Listen to where my heart really is.

Listen to the things I might be missing when I’m too busy to notice.

“Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is take a deep breath and rest.”

It sounds simple, but it’s not always easy. Especially for those of us who feel like the world is watching to see if we’re going to make it.

Rest Is Trust

There’s a reason Scripture tells us to be still and know that I am God.
It doesn’t say, “Be productive and know…” or “Be impressive and know…” — it says, be still.

And that kind of stillness takes trust.

Trust that while you rest, God is still working.

Trust that you don’t have to force your future into place.

Trust that He’s not just the God of your progress — He’s the God of your peace, too.

For me, rest has looked like hiking quiet trails in my trail runners. It’s looked like spending time with friends and giving back to my community — not out of obligation, but out of gratitude. It’s looked like stepping away from the screen and stepping into the Word.

 Reset Doesn’t Mean Retreat

A few people have asked why I’m pursuing my private pilot license. And the answer is, honestly, because there’s something deeply healing about the idea of rising above the chaos — even if just for a few minutes.

There’s something about seeing the world from a higher perspective that reminds me: God sees it all. The chaos, the climb, the calling — all of it.

I’ve also become a licensed drone pilot. Not because I needed another project, but because it’s another way to show people beauty — to serve clients better, to see things from a different angle, and to keep growing in the ways that matter.

Sometimes, resting isn’t about doing nothing. It’s about doing something that realigns your heart, refuels your spirit, and resets your pace.

 A Word for the Weary

If you’re reading this and you’re worn out — not just tired, but soul tired — let me speak directly to you:

You are allowed to rest.

You don’t have to earn it.

You don’t have to apologize for it.

You don’t have to explain it.

You just need to know that God invites you to it.
And in that rest, He reminds you who you are: His.

If you’re in a season of rebuilding — financially, emotionally, spiritually — I hope this blog meets you like a friend at the trailhead. You’re not alone. And you’re not falling behind. You’re just catching your breath for the next stretch of the journey.
